Senators fall to Cleveland Community College, 16-9 

SHELBY, NC – No. 14 Walters State dropped a 16-9 contest to Cleveland Community College on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Senators fell to 20-5-1 on the season.

At the plate, Jack Vogele had four hits, one being a home run, and drove in two runs. Tyler Myatt homered and drove in three runs as well, while Nate Conner had two RBIs. 

On the mound, Rowan Park got the start and threw 4.1 innings. Park gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out three. After Brayden Blankenship threw to two batters, Mason Trucks (1-1) threw the next 1.2 innings. Trucks gave up seven runs on four hits and struck out three. Justin Bell followed Trucks with a scoreless inning, before Andrew Moore pitched the eighth. Moore gave up four runs on three hits and struck out one. 

Cleveland got on the board in the bottom of the first with a run, but Walters State picked up four in the top of the third to go up 4-1. Conner started things with an RBI single, and Myatt drove in the other three runs with his 11th home run of the season. 

In the fourth, the Senators added to their lead with an RBI single by Jack Torbett that scored Carson Cabbage to make it 5-1. The Yetis picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to three, but Walters State got the run back in the top of the fifth as Vogele scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-2.

However, Cleveland scored three in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a 10-6 lead. Vogele got a run back for Walters State in the top of the seventh, but two more runs scored for the Yetis in the bottom half of the inning.

The Senators made one final push in the top of the eighth as Conner scored Torbett on a sacrifice fly and Vogele singled home Fenton to make it 12-9. Unfortunately for the Senators, they left the bases-loaded in the inning and Cleveland scored four more in the bottom of the eighth to take the 16-9 win.
