YOUNG HARRIS, GA – No. 12 Walters State won their final road game of the regular season on Monday, grabbing a 10-1 win over Young Harris JV.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 41-12 overall.
At the plate, Deniel Ortiz led the way with two home runs and five RBI. Along with Ortiz, Taylor Harris had two hits and two RBI. Ethan Bosely had two hits, as well.
On the mound, Jonny Stevens (3-0) got the start and threw an inning before Luke Ferguson pitched the second and struck out the side. Following a clean third inning by Miles Smith, Matthew Porchas struck out two in the fourth. Rowan Park struck out one in the fifth, and William Wexler struck out one in the sixth.
Next in line on the mound was Ryan Bender, and he struck out one in the seventh. Tyler Welch struck out one in the eighth and Gage Peterson gave up a run but struck out the side in the ninth.
The Senators got on the board in the top of the first, as Ortiz smoked a two-run homer. Following a Jack Torbett sacrifice fly in the third that made it 3-0, Harris and Bosely singled home runs in the sixth to make it 5-0.
In the eighth, Ortiz made it 8-0 with a three-run home run. The Senators final two runs came in the ninth, as an error scored one run and Harris singled home another to make it 10-0.
Young Harris got one in the bottom of the ninth, but that was all.

Walters State will close out the regular season over the weekend at home against Dyersburg State. The nine-inning game is set for Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
