No. 13 Walters State pick up two wins over Olney Central 

MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 13 Walters State grabbed two wins over Olney Central on Friday afternoon, taking 11-9 and 14-1 victories. 

With the wins, the Senators improved to 27-5-1 overall.

GAME ONE: No. 13 Walters State 11, Olney Central 9

In game one, the Senators scored five runs in the sixth and held on for a late win over Olney Central.

At the plate, Atticus Goodson led the way with two home runs and three RBIs. Holden Pantier had a home run and three RBIs as well, while Jack Vogele homered and drove in two runs. 

On the mound, Walker Morgan got the start and threw five innings. Morgan allowed just two hits and struck out nine. The sixth inning belonged to four pitchers for Walters State, as Ryan Smith, Ryder Moye, Dakota Crumbley and Mason Trucks all saw time on the mound in the inning. Trucks (2-1) got all three outs in the inning and then the final three in the seventh to secure the win. 

The Senators got a two-out rally rolling in the opening inning of the game, as Vogele walked and Tyler Myatt singled. That brought up Pantier, and he made it 3-0 with a three-run home run. 

Walters State added two more runs in the third on a Vogele home run, his ninth of the season, and then went up 6-0 in the fourth on a solo shot by Goodson. However, Olney Central's bats woke up in the sixth inning and the Knights scored eight runs to go up 8-6.

Needing an answer, Brantley Bamberg walked to start the bottom of the sixth and the run came across to score when Carson Cabbage doubled. Goodson was up next, and he gave Walters State the lead for good with a two-run home run that made it 9-8.

Walters State added two more runs in the inning when Nate Conner doubled home Kole Fenton and then scored on an error to make it 11-8. Olney Central got one run in the seventh, but that was all as the Senators picked up the win. 

GAME TWO: No. 13 Walters State 14, Olney Central 1 (5 Innings) 

In game two, The Senators scored 14 runs on nine hits and completed the doubleheader sweep.

Bamberg led the way at the plate for the Senators, smacking a home run and driving in five runs. Kenny Cox drove in three runs and had two hits, and Drew Blalock had two RBIs. 

On the mound, Aiden Robertson (7-1) got the start and threw four innings. Robertson allowed one run on two hits and struck out seven. Brayden Blankenship pitched the final inning, striking out one in a scoreless outing. 

Walters State again scored in the bottom of the first to get things started, as Cox doubled home Vogele and Myatt to go up 2-0. The Senators kept the momentum going in the second inning, scoring five times to go up 7-0. Those runs came on a double steal that scored Cabbage, a Myatt sacrifice fly that drove home Taylor Harris and a Bamberg three-run home run. 

Olney Central got on the board with a run in the third, but the Senators closed things out with seven runs in the fourth. Bamberg got things going with a two-RBI single before Cox drove Bamberg home with an RBI single. A Blalock two-RBI double made it 12-1. And it was 13-1 after a passed ball scored Blalock. The final run came on a bases-loaded walk to Hayden Blair that scored Cabbage.

Walters State and Olney Central will be back in action on Saturday for a 9-inning contest. First pitch is set for 11 am ET.
