MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 9 Walters State threw their second combined no-hitter in as many weeks on Tuesday, picking up a 15-2 win over Chattanooga State in a non-conference game.
With the win, the Senators improved to 29-5-1 on the season.
Gage Peterson (4-2) got the start for the Senators on the mound and threw four innings, allowing two runs on no hits and striking out seven. Peterson was also the starter for the Senators combined no-hitter last week against USC Union.
Following Peterson, Rowan Park threw a scoreless fifth inning before Reilly Byers threw the sixth inning where he struck out a batter. Byers also pitched in last week's combined no-hitter.
Jace Kirby was the final pitcher on the mound for the Senators, striking out two in the seventh.
At the plate, Tyler Myatt hit a grand slam while Nate Conner homered and drove in three runs. Jack Vogele had four RBIs, as well.
Chattanooga State's lone two runs came in the first inning as Peterson hit a batter with the bases-loaded and walked a batter with the bases-loaded. However, the Senators hit back in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI double by Vogele and an RBI single by Holden Pantier that put them ahead 3-2.
In the second inning, the Senators added five more runs to lead 8-2. Those runs came on a fielder's choice that scored Kenny Cox, a groundout by Vogele that scored Jack Torbett, a balk that scored Conner and a two-RBI single from Brantley Bamberg that scored Pantier and Myatt.
After the Senators scored two more runs in the third on a Conner two-run home run that made it 10-2, Walters State closed the game with five more runs in the fifth. The first run of the inning came on a hit by pitch with the bases-loaded that scored Torbett, and Myatt drove four more home with a grand slam that made it 15-2.
