Walters State in third after first day of Walters State Fall Classic

Morristown, Tenn. — Carson-Newman fired a five under 283 to take the team lead on the first day of the Walters State Fall Classic held Monday at The Country Club in Morristown. Host team Walters State slotted in at third with a team score of 303.

 

Eagles' teammates Fergus Robinson and Zach Young were on fire on day one as Robinson had four birdies on the front nine and added three more on the back nine to take the individual lead with a six-under 66. Young was close behind with a four-under 68 as he had five birdies and an eagle on hole number five.

 

Rounding out the top 10 are Tusculum's Matt DiBella (72), and Noah Jones (74), Ethan Rimmer (74) of Carson-Newman, Jeff Perez (74) and Kyle Engelbert (75) of Tusculum and Carson-Newman's Alec Lambert (75) and Aaron Johns (75).

 

Walters State's best finisher on day one was freshman Chad Homan (Knoxville, Tenn.) who sits in third place with a one-under 71. Freshman Hogan Herring (Crossville, Tenn.) and sophomore Stephen Owen (Rogersville, Tenn.) are tied for 14th with a score of 77, sophomore Andrew Linkous (Cleveland, Tenn.) is tied for 16th at 78 and freshman Zach Wood (Greeneville, Tenn.) is in a tie for 25th place with an 83. The Senators had three players competing as individuals as freshman Nicholas Thompson (Riceville, Tenn.) is tied for 16th at 78, freshman Peyton Humphreys (Greeneville, Tenn.) shot 79 and in a tie for 19th and freshman Ty Sauceman (Greeneville, Tenn.) is 27th with a score of 84.

 

Tusculum-A is in second place in the team standings as they finished day one with an 11-over 299. Walters State is third at 303 (+15), followed by Tusculum-B at 308 (+20) and Roane State with a score of 318 (+30).

 

The final day of the Walters State Fall Golf Classic will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
