Senators in third place at Calhoun Spring Classic

DECATUR, AL – No. 7 Walters State is in a tie for third place after the first two rounds of the Calhoun Spring Classic at Burningtree Country Club on Monday. 

 

The Senators shot a 291 in round one and a 301 in round two to finish the day at 16-over. Calhoun CC is tied at 16-over with Walters State while Central Alabama CC is in second at 12-over. Jefferson State CC is in first at seven-over. 

 

The Senators were led by AJ Rinehart and Chad Homan, who are in a tie for fifth place at one-over. Homan shot a one-over in round one with birdies on the fifth and 18th holes. He shot an even-par, 72 in round two with birdies on holes two, seven, 13 and 14. 

 

Meanwhile, Rinehart shot a one-over in round one with birdies on holes eight, nine, 13 and 16. In round two, he shot an even-par with a birdie on 13. 

 

Along with Homan and Rinehart was Sawyer Spoone in a tie for 12th at four-over. Spoone shot a one-under, 71 in round one with birdies on one, five, seven, 13 and 17. In round two, he shot a 77 with birdies on holes nine and 13. 

 

Rounding out the Senators on Monday were Jeremy Ellis (T-25) and JT McKenzie (T-33). Ellis is at 11-over, with his lone birdie on the day coming on hole 17 in round one. McKenzie is at 14-over with his birdies coming on hole 13 in both rounds and hole 16 in round two.

Walters State will be back on Tuesday for the final day of the Calhoun Spring Classic at Burningtree Country Club.
