JOHNSON CITY, TN – Walters State is in seventh place after the first round of the East Tennessee Collegiate at the Johnson City Country Club on Monday.
As a team, the Senators shot a 10-over, 298. Milligan University is in first place with a team score of 3-under.
Jeremy Ellis led the way for Walters State with an even-par, 72. Ellis birdied holes five and six on the front nine and then shot a 1-under on the back nine with a birdie on 11. He is in a tie for 12th place.
Along with Ellis, both AJ Rinehart and Sawyer Spoone are in a tie for 25th after shooting 3-over, 75. Rinehart birdied holes nine and 17 while Spoone had birdies on two, three, nine, 11 and 13.
Rounding out the day for Walters State were Ashton Pratt and JT McKenzie who both sit in a tie for 31st after shooting four-over, 76. Pratt birdied holes 13 and 17 while McKenzie birdied the third hole.
Bluefield University's Hunter Bowers and Tennessee Southern's Shane Lillis are in first place at 5-under.
