Senators play consistent golf, sit in second-place after first day of Southeast District Championship

BRISTOL, TN – Walters State played a strong 36 holes of golf on Monday at The Golf Club of Bristol, and sit in second place after the first day of the NJCAA DII Southeast District Championship.

"The players did great," Walters State coach Tony Patterson said. "We did what we've talked about all year, and that's eliminating big numbers. I told them we had to cut out the doubles and triples, and I know we did that today. We played the best 36 holes we've played all year. I'm just hoping that we can continue to do it tomorrow, and I feel comfortable that we can because we have a good mindset going."

Kinsey led the charge for Walters State, shooting a two-under (69) in round one and following it up with an even-par (71) in round two. Kinsey was two-over through his first five holes in round one but birdied hole nine, eagled hole 13 and birdied hole 14 to finish strong. In round two, Kinsey birdied holes five, six, 10 and 13.

Rounding out the team were Brantley, Brooks and Leach. Brantley shot even-par (71) in both rounds on Monday, with birdies on holes four, 14 and 16 in round one and holes three, seven, 10 and 13 in round two.
