Senators in second place after first round of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, TN – No. 12 Walters State battled rainy conditions in the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Sunday at Sevierville Golf Club.

 

Despite the weather, the Senators put together a solid round, sitting in second place after shooting a five-under (283). Carson-Newman is in first place at eight-under.

 

The Senators were led by AJ Rinehart and JT McKenzie, both in a tie for seventh after shooting three-under (69). Rinehart played a bogey-free round, birdieing holes one, two and 13. For McKenzie, he was red hot on the back nine with an eagle on 10, a 530 yard par-5, and birdies on 11, 13, 15 and 17. McKenzie also birdied the first hole. 

 

Along with Rinehart and McKenzie, Chad Homan shot a one-under (71) and is in a tie for 12th place. Homan had birdies on holes 10 and 14 and an eagle on the seventh hole, a 527 yard par-5. 

 

Rounding out the scoring was Jeremy Ellis who is in a tie for 38th after shooting a two-over (74). Ellis had birdies on the fourth and eighth holes. 

 

Findlay's Justin Atkinson and Tennessee Tech's Sean Anderson are in a tie for first after shooting a five-under in round one.

Walters State will be back in action for round two of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Monday at Sevierville Golf Club.
