Linkous first, No. 6-ranked Senators third after first day of Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational

Rome, Ga. — Walters State posted a first round team score of 292 Monday to end the opening round of the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational in third place. The No. 6-ranked Senators shot a combined 4-over at the Stonebridge Golf Club.

 

LaGrange College finished the day in the top spot with a 3-under 285. Huntington College "B" team was even at 288 and in second place. Host Berry College had its top score at +13 at 301, good enough for seventh as the teams enter day two.

 

Sophomore Andrew Linkous (Cleveland, Tenn.) shot a 5-under 67 to lead the field on the individual leaderboard, a good three strokes ahead of Emory's Michael Rosenbloom in second place. Leader LaGrange has three golfers, Ben Womack, Cameron Starr and Sam Rogers all at 1-under.

 

Freshman Zach Wood (Greeneville, Tenn.) was 2-over at 74, freshman Hogan Herring (Crossville, Tenn.) was 3-over at 75, freshman  Chad Homan (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 4-over at 76 and sophomore Stephen Owen (Rogersville. Tenn.) shot an 81, for a 9-over in the first day of golf.

 

Round two begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Stonebridge Golf Club
