Senators lead after first round of East Tennessee Collegiate

JOHNSON CITY, TN – The Walters State golf team got their fall season off to a fast start on Monday in the first round of the East Tennessee Collegiate.  

As a team, Walters State shot a total of 290 which puts them at 2-over after one round, leading the competition by an impressive nine strokes.  

The Senators were led by freshmen Chad Homan (Knoxville, TN) and Nate Vaughan (Sevierville, TN), who shot even-par 72. Homan and Vaughan are currently tied for second individually.  

Following closely behind them was sophomore Stephen Owen (Rogersville, TN), shooting a 1-over 73. Freshman Dalton Sutton (Ooltewah, TN) matched Owen in his first collegiate round with a 1-over 73. Sutton and Owen are tied for fifth individually.  

Hunter Hartman (Greeneville, TN) rounded out the scoring with a 10-over 82.   

The Senators closest competition in the field is the University of the Cumberlands at 11-over. Montreat College is in third at 13-over while Milligan sits at fourth at 16-over.  

The Senators will be back in action on Tuesday for the second round of the East Tennessee Collegiate. This is one of two tournaments that Walters State is playing this fall.
