Walters State takes home East Tennessee Collegiate crown after second round cancelled due to weather

JOHNSON CITY, TN – The Walters State golf team won the East Tennessee Collegiate title Tuesday morning after the second round of the tournament was cancelled due to weather.  

Walters State shot a 2-over 290 in the first round to put themselves up by nine shots. The Senators closest competition in the field was the University of the Cumberlands at 11-over. Montreat College came in third at 13-over while Milligan finished fourth at 16-over.  

The Senators were led in the first round by freshmen Chad Homan (Knoxville, TN) and Nate Vaughan (Sevierville, TN), who shot even-par 72. Homan and Vaughn tied for second individually.  

Following closely behind them was sophomore Stephen Owen (Rogersville, TN), shooting a 1-over 73. Freshmen Dalton Sutton (Ooltewah, TN) matched Owen in his first collegiate round with a 1-over 73. Sutton and Owen tied for fifth individually.  

Hunter Hartman (Greeneville, TN) rounded out the scoring with a 10-over 82. 

UP NEXT: Walters State concludes the fall season in late October, taking part in the TWU Bojangles Fall Classic, Oct. 24-25.
