Walters State kicks off spring season in Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, TN – Walters State's spring golf season kicked off on Sunday at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Club.  

After the first round, Walters State currently sits in 14th place with a team score of +19. Morehead State is the leader at 9-under.  

Walters State was led in the first round by Chad Homan, who shot a 2-over 74. Homan shot even on the back nine and is in a tie for 45th place. Behind him, Hunter Hartman shot a four-over 76 and is in a tie for 58th place.  

Rounding out the Senators, Nate Vaughan is in a tie for 65th after shooting a 6-over 78 while Justin Cowden is right behind him in 68th after shooting a 7-over 79. Zach Wood shot a 13-over 85 as well for Walters State.  

The Senators are one of two junior colleges in the tournament this week and are ahead of Roane State after the first round.  

Walters State alum Alex Hodge, now a member of the Carson-Newman golf team, shot a 3-under 69 today and is currently tied for eighth place. The Eagles are in second place at 7-under.  

UP NEXT:  

Walters State will be back on the course Monday for round two of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. The Senators are set to tee-off at  8:50 a.m.
