Walters State in first place after first round of NJCAA Division II Southeast Golf Championship

GRAMLING, S.C. – Day one of the NJCAA Division II Southeast Golf Championship is in the books and the Walters State Senators find themselves on top of the leaderboard at Village Greens Golf Course. 

 

The Senators fired a 298 to take a nine-stroke lead over Abraham Baldwin College who finished the day with a team score of 307. Cleveland State is in third at 314 and Roane State is fourth at 330. The top two teams advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Plymouth, Indiana May 18-21.

 

Individually, the leaderboard is bunched up at the top as Brady Kotkiewicz of Abraham Baldwin is in first place with a one-under 70 which is one stroke better than teammate Brock Barber and Chad Homan of Walters State. 

 

Fourth and fifth place are held by two Senators as Nate Vaughn had a score of 72 and Hogan Herring fired a 74 on day one. Hunter Hartman and Zach Wood are tied for 11th place as they both carded an 81 in Monday's first round. Homan had the play of the day as he sank his second shot on the par-5 13th hole for a double eagle.

 

The second and final round will be played on Tuesday.
