PLYMOUTH, IN – Walters State produced a solid first round in the NJCAA Division II Championships on Tuesday afternoon at Swan Lake Resort Black Course.
The Senators shot a combined score of 302 (14-over) that has them in a tie for eighth place with Tyler Junior College.
South Mountain Community College leads the event after shooting a one-under, 287. Iowa Central follows behind them in second place with a score of even par.
Individually, Walters State was led by Hunter Harman. Hartman shot a 1-over 73 that sits him in a tie for 20th place. Hartman carded a 36 on the back nine, birdieing the 10th and 15th holes.
Not far behind Harman was Nate Vaughan who shot a 2-over 74 that has him in a tie for 27th place. Vaughan shot a 37 on both the front and back nine. His only birdie came on the 15th hole.
Along with those two, Chad Homan sits in a tie for 45th place after shooting a four-over 76. Homan birdied two holes in the round, the par-five fifth and par-four 17th.
Rounding out the scoring was Hogan Herring and Justin Cowden. Herring currently sits in a tie for 69th place after shooting a seven-over 79 that saw him birdie the 15th hole. Cowden finished his first round shooting an 11-over 83. Cowden birdied the fifth and 15th holes.
