Lady Senators finish Raleigh trip 2-2

RALEIGH, N.C. — Walters State suffered a five-set loss in its opening volleyball match Saturday before sweeping the home team in three games in the second match, as the Lady Senators split their four total matches over the weekend at the Wake Technical College Invitational.

 

The Lady Senators opened the second day of the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Johnson & Wales University, dropping the first two games by identical scores of 25-18 before taking the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-19. WSCC was tagged with a 15-9 defeat in the fifth frame to lose the match.

 

In the weekend finale, the Lady Senators rolled to a 3-0 victory over host Wake Tech, taking the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-21 to move to 6-5 on the season.

 

Against Johnson & Wales, the Lady Senators had three players reach double figures in kills, led by Micayla Vallie with 15, Kaley Muncy with a dozen and Mckenzie Jenkins with 11 in the loss. Sydney Hurd dished out 21 assists, while Courtney Dotson added 18 assists in the contest. Vallie and Hayley Wolfe both had 20 digs, while Hurd added 11, Dotson had 10 and Lexi Wakefield notched nine in the match.

 

In the victory over Wake Tech, Jenkins and Vallie both had 10 kills, Hurd dished out 15 assists and Dotson tallied 14 assists, Vallie had 19 digs and Wolfe added 10 digs in the win. Dotson and Hurd both totaled eight digs in the contest.

 

The Lady Senators will open their home schedule Wednesday evening with a matchup against Bryan College inside 'Z' Buda Gymnasium and Assembly Hall. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
