Lady Senators roll past No. 19 Cape Fear, fall in competitive match to No.1 Richard Bland

WILMINGTON, NC – Walters State had a tough challenge ahead of them on Friday evening and proved up to it at the Cape Fear Invitational.

 

Taking on No. 1 Richard Bland, the Lady Senators played three competitive sets before falling, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 26-24). In the nightcap, Walters State bounced back with a 3-1 win over No. 19 Cape Fear (20-25, 25-12, 25-12, 26-24).

 

With the split, the Lady Senators move to 3-1 on the season. 

 

Against Cape Fear, Alyssa Campbell led the way with 10 kills and six blocks while Maddie Rockrohr and Lauren Mims had nine kills each. Mims also had three blocks and 17 digs, and Jaci Drinnon had 35 digs and three aces. 

 

In the loss to Richard Bland, Campbell had nine kills and three blocks. Catherine Sweeney added eight kills and three blocks, and Drinnon had 33 digs.

Walters State will have two more matches on Saturday at Cape Fear. The Lady Senators will face Lake-Sumter State at 11 a.m., and St. Johns River State at 1 p.m.
