Lady Senators fall in three sets to Chattanooga State

Lady Senators fall in three sets to Chattanooga State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State struggled to find a rhythm on Tuesday evening against Chattanooga State, falling to the Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-22).

With the loss, the Lady Senators fell to 9-9 on the season and 4-3 in Region 7 play.

"Chattanooga State played really well tonight," Walters State coach Megan Blaylock said. "I thought we played better in the third set and showed some fight. We just have to keep battling and working on things as postseason play gets closer."

It was the Lady Senators who came out firing to start the first set as a Jordan Moore block led to a 2-0 lead. The two teams would trade points for a while until the two teams were tied at eight. During that stretch, Rachel Miller, Mackenzie Sweigart and Takiya Curry all had kills.

However, Chattanooga State took the lead at 9-8 and never trailed again. The Lady Senators showed fight as Moore had three more kills, including one on an incredible save by Faith Heskett as she kicked her foot out to save the ball from hitting the ground.

The Lady Senators cut the lead to 23-19 before Chatt State scored the final two points of the set.

In set two, the two teams traded points once again. Walters State got a lead at 5-4 as Maddie Rockrohr had an ace and kill and then led 9-6 before Chattanooga State tied the set with three straight points.

Unfortunately for the Lady Senators, after a tie at 11, they scored just two more points the entire set as Chattanooga State dominated at the net to go up two sets to none.

The third set was the closest as Walters State battled. Chattanooga State led early on but could not put Walters State away. The Lady Senators finally caught up and tied the match at 13, 14, 15 and 16 before taking a two-point lead.

Chatt State briefly tied the set back up at 18 before Walters State rallied off two straight points, one being off a Haylee Richardson kill, and then led 22-19. However, following a timeout, the Tigers woke back up and scored the final six points to take the set and the match.
