Lady Senators put together impressive performance in sweep of Chattanooga State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Using the momentum from their 3-1 weekend at Wallace State, the Walters State volleyball team made quick work of Chattanooga State on Tuesday evening. The Lady Senators swept the Lady Tigers, 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-21).

With the win, Walters State improved to 14-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Lady Senators have won three in a row and four of their last five matches.

"I thought we played excellent tonight," Walters State coach Megan Blaylock said. "From start to finish, we never really let up and kept competing. It was a really great performance and was very encouraging to see."

It was a team effort as Jaci Drinnon, Lauren Mims and Alyssa Campbell were unstoppable for the Lady Senators in the match. Maddie Rockrohr also had multiple aces and kills, while Mattie Davis was strong at the net with multiple blocks.

"Everyone played really well," Blaylock said. "We were really strong at the net, and Jaci was everywhere. It was just a great performance from everyone."

It was a back-and-forth start to the match as the two teams were tied 3-3 before Chattanooga State took a 6-4 lead. The Lady Senators scored two straight to tie the set and then got an ace by Allison Singleton and a kill by Catherine Sweeney to take an 8-6 lead.

The lead would hold from there for the Lady Senators as Rockrohr and Haylee Richardson had kills during a run that saw their lead increase to 14-8. It was 18-9 after an ace from Olivia Brown and kill by Rockrohr, before Walters State pulled out a 25-13 set one win.

Set two was one of the best of the season from the Lady Senators as they went on a 15-1 run at 1-1 to go up 16-2. During the run, Rockrohr had two aces while Davis had multiple blocks and Mims had a handful of kills.

Chattanooga State broke the drought with a point, but Walters State continued the run as they grew the lead to 19-4 before closing it out with a 25-10 set two win.

The third set was the most competitive of the match as Walters State led the majority of the set, but the lead never grew above four. In the set, Campbell was on fire with a handful of kills and a block. Rochrohr and Mims had a few more kills, as well. At 23-21, the Lady Senators scored the final two points to close things out and take the match.
