No. 21 Walters State remains undefeated with sweep of Chattanooga State

CHATTANOOGA, TN – No. 21 Walters State kept their undefeated season rolling right along on Tuesday evening, sweeping Chattanooga State 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-23).

With the win, the Lady Senators move to 6-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.

Things started off fast for the Lady Senators as they scored the first three points of the match. After Chattanooga State finally got on the board in the first set, Walters State continued the quick start and got the lead 10-5.

However, Chattanooga State fought back and made it 10-9 before Walters State rallied off three straight points. From there, the Lady Senators continued to build their lead and cruised to a 25-15 set one victory as Hannah Daniel closed it out with a kill.

In set two, the Lady Senators got off to yet another quick start, but the Tigers stayed right with them and actually took the lead for a time.

But, as they have all throughout this season, Walters State remained calm and never let the Chattanooga State lead get above a point. With the score 13-12 Chattanooga State, the Lady Senators rallied off three straight points to take the lead back and force a timeout.

From there, the two teams continued to battle back and forth, and Chattanooga State had a 24-22 lead and were serving for the set. However, Walters State fought it off, and Devyn Davis finished the set with a huge kill to go up 2-0.

Set three saw more of the same as both teams battled. Walters State started strong yet again and went up 9-4 that forced a timeout. But once again the Tigers fought back and tied the match up.

Davis stopped the bleeding with a kill, and the Lady Senators built their lead back up to 17-12. However, there was Chattanooga State again one last time, tying the set at 23. However, the Lady Senators finished them off with an Olivia Oxendine block.

UP NEXT:

Walters State will be back in action on Thursday at home, taking on Cleveland State at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Senators took down the Cougars 3-1 in the two teams' first meeting.
