Oxendine named Region VII Most Valuable Player, Blaylock Region VII Co-Coach of the Year

MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 9 Walters State racked up the awards on Friday evening as the NJCAA announced the Region VII Volleyball Awards. 

For the Lady Senators, Olivia Oxendine was named the region's Most Valuable Player. This is the second year in-a-row Oxendine has been named the region's Most Valuable Player. 

Oxendine totaled 137 kills during the season, averaging almost three kills a set. Oxendine scored 188 points for the team, averaging four points per set. Oxendine led the league in hitting percentage at .405, was second in the league in kills per set, third in kills, was second in blocks per set a 1.13 and second in service aces per set at .40.  

Along with Oxendine, head coach Megan Blaylock was named the Region VII Co-Coach of the Year. This is the third straight year Blaylock has taken home the honor. 

Blaylock led to Lady Senators to a 15-1 regular season record and an undefeated 12-0 record in the conference. The Lady Senators won the Region VII Championship Friday night for the fourth straight year. The Lady Senators are currently at their highest ranking in the program's history at No. 9.  

Oxendine was also named to the All-Region VII Volleyball team along with teammates Devyn Davis and Amanda Singleton.  

Davis was a standout for the Lady Senators in her first year in the program. Davis ranked fourth in the league in kills with 118, second in hitting percentage at .262 and averaged almost a block per set, good enough for third in the league.  

Davis was also named the Region VII Tournament MVP.  

Singleton was the heart and soul of the Lady Senators team this season, playing every match. Singleton was fifth in the league in digs with 222 and averaged a little over three assists per set while also averaging 3.89 digs per set. Singleton was also a member of the All-Region team last year.
