 No. 6 Walters State scores 40 runs in doubleheader sweep of Jackson State 

JACKSON, TN – No. 6 Walters State scored 40 runs in 10 innings on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader over Jackson State 24-5 and 16-4. 

With the wins, the Senators improved to 38-6-1 overall and 18-5 in TCCAA play.

GAME ONE: No. 6 Walters State 24, Jackson State 5 (5 Innings)

The Senators scored 11 runs in the first inning of game one on Friday and were off from there.

As a team, Walters State had 21 hits in the game. Leading the way was Kole Fenton with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. Jack Vogele went 3-3 with a home run and five RBIs, and Kenny Cox hit a home run and drove in five runs. Walker Morgan had two hits and two RBIs, as well.

On the mound, Aiden Robertson got the start and threw two innings. Robertson didn't allow a hit and struck out two. Ryder Moye replaced Robertson in the third and pitched a clean inning, before Dakota Crumbley allowed two runs and struck out two in the fourth inning. Ryan Smith threw the fifth inning, allowing three runs on five hits.

The first inning saw Walters State send 16 batters to the plate. Fenton doubled to open the game, and Nate Conner was hit by a pitch to put two on. After a double steal allowed Fenton to score, Vogele singled home Conner to make it 2-0. Tyler Myatt singled after Vogele, and Holden Pantier doubled home Vogele to make it 3-0. Following a Carson Cabbage walk, Morgan drove in two more runs with a single that scored Pantier and Myatt.

The scoring continued with an RBI groundout by Jack Torbett, and a balk scored Morgan to make it 7-0. In his second at-bat of the inning, Fenton doubled to score Taylor Harris, and Connor singled home Fenton to up the lead to 9-0. The final two runs of the inning came as Vogele smashed a two-run home run that made it 11-0.

In the second, Fenton continued his impressive day with a two-RBI triple that made it 13-0, and it was 14-0 when Vogele flew out but scored Fenton. Six more runs scored in the third on an RBI single by Harris, a fielder's choice that scored Morgan, an RBI single by Vogele and a three-run homer by Cox that made it 20-0.

Walters State's final four runs came in the fourth as Fenton singled home yet another run, Atticus Goodson singled in Harris and an error allowed two runs to score to make it 24-0. Jackson got two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth, but that was all. 

GAME TWO: No. 6 Walters State 16, Jackson State 4 (5 Innings) 

In game two, the Senators scored in every inning on their way to the doubleheader sweep.

At the plate, Myatt led the way with three hits and three RBIs while Morgan had three hits and three RBIs. Conner homered in the game, and Vogele picked up two more hits and drove in two runs. 

On the mound, Reilly Byers got the start and threw three innings. Byers allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four. Tyler Peterson pitched the fourth inning, allowing two runs on one hit, before Lorenzo Atwell threw a scoreless fifth inning.

The Senators struck for two runs in the top of the first, as Myatt singled home Vogele and Conner. Jackson scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Walters State answered with six runs in the second. Those runs came on a two-RBI single by Vogele, a Myatt RBI single, a Kenny Cox two-RBI single and a Torbett sacrifice fly that made it 8-1.

The Senators got a run in the third on a solo home run by Conner, but the Green Jays got that run back in the bottom half of the inning. The two teams traded a run again in the fourth, the Senators getting their run on an RBI single by Harris, and Walters State closed things out with six runs in the fifth. Those runs came on a Pantier RBI double, a Morgan three-RBI double, a Justin Bell RBI double and a Fenton groundout that scored Bell to make it 16-4.
