Myatt homers twice, drives in seven runs as No. 6 Walters State picks up 22-0 win over Jackson State

JACKSON, TN – Tyler Myatt added to his impressive season on Saturday for No. 6 Walters State, as the Senators picked up a 22-0 win over Jackson State in seven innings. 

With the victory, the Senators improved to 39-6-1 overall and 19-5 in TCCAA play.

Myatt led the way for Walters State in the game with four hits, two home runs and seven RBIs. For the season, Myatt is hitting .500 with 20 home runs and 70 RBIs. 

Along with Myatt, Taylor Harris had three hits and four RBIs while Nate Conner doubled, tripled and drove in two runs. Carson Cabbage knocked in three runs, as well. 

On the mound, Gage Peterson got the start and threw five innings. Peterson allowed one hit and struck out a season-high 10 batters. Jace Kirby replaced Peterson in the sixth and struck out one in an inning of work before Matthew Porchas closed things out with a clean seventh inning. 

The Senators put two on the board in the first to take an early lead. Conner got things started with an RBI double, and Myatt made it 2-0 with an RBI single. 

In the second, Walters State added six runs to make it 8-0. Those runs came on a Harris two-RBI double, a double steal that scored Harris and a Myatt three-run home run. The Senators added three more runs in the fourth, as Cabbage singled in a run, Kenny Cox scored Kole Fenton on a sacrifice fly and Cabbage scored on an error to make it 11-0.

Following four runs in the fifth on a Conner RBI triple and a Myatt three-run home run that made it 15-0, Walters State closed the scoring out in the sixth with seven runs. Drew Blalock started things with an RBI double, and a wild pitch scored Blalock to make it 17-0. It was 19-0 after a two-RBI single by Cabbage, and 20-0 after a Brantley Bamberg RBI single. The final two runs came as Harris doubled home Bamberg and Hayden Blair

Meanwhile, Peterson struck out one in the first, three in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Walters State will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Southwest Virginia. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 pm ET.
