Walters State's Talley just outside of top-10 at NJCAA DII Golf Tournament

JOPLIN, MO – Walters State opened up play in the NJCAA DII Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club.

 

As a team, the Senators shot 27-over and sit in 15th-place. Kirkwood leads the tournament after shooting 13-over. The first round was not able to be completed Tuesday, as storms came through the area late. 10 teams will finish their first round on Wednesday morning. 

 

The Senators were led by Nick Talley, who is in a tie for 11th. Talley shot two-over on the day, with birdies on holes five, six, eight and nine. Talley closed strong with a birdie on 18, as well. 

 

Along with Talley, Sloan Brooks shot a six-over, 78. Brooks shot five-over on the front nine but finished strong with a one-over on the back nine. Brooks is in a tie for 39th. 

 

Finishing third on the team for the day was Bowen Brantley. Brantley shot a seven-over, 79. He had birdies on holes six and 10. Brantley is in a tie for 51st. 

 

Next, Ian Kinsey finished the day at 12-over (84). He birdied the first hole and the seventh hole. Kinsey shot four-over on the front nine and eight-over on the back nine. Kinsey is tied for 104th. 

 

Rounding out the team, Jack Leach finished with an 86 (14-over). Leach birdied the par-5 15th, shooting five-over on the back nine and nine-over on the front nine. Leach is in a tie for 116th-place.

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday for the second round of the NJCAA DII Golf Tournament at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club.
