
BLUEFIELD, VA – Nick Talley and Blake Woody are in the top-10 following the opening round of the Fincastle Intercollegiate on Monday.
As a team, Walters State is in second-place at nine-over, 289. The Senators are just two shots back of Columbia College (SC).
Talley was Walters State's top-finisher on the day, shooting a one-under, 69, to put him in a tie for second-place. Talley bogeyed the second hole but bounced back with a birdie on the third and sixth holes to shoot one-under on the front-nine. On the back-nine, Talley birdied the 11th and 12th holes.
For Woody, he started his round on the 10th-hole and shot two-over on the back nine, birdieing the 11th-hole. On the front-nine, Woody finished strong, with birdies on holes five and nine to finish his round at two-over, 72. Woody is in a tie for eighth-place.
Sloan Brooks opened his round on fire for the Senators, with birdies on three of the first six holes. Brooks shot one-over on the front nine and three-over on the back-nine to finish with a four-over, 74. Brooks is in a tie for 13th-place.
Right with Brooks in a tie for 13th-place at four-over was Bowen Brantley. Brantley had birdies on holes seven and 13 and then ended with a bang with birdies on 17 and 18 to shoot two-over on both the front and back-nines.
The final golfer for Walters State was Jonas Rayfield in a tie for 25th-place at seven-over. Rayfield had birdies on holes 12 and 13.
Playing as an individual, Alex Gaetz is in a tie for 16th-place after shooting a five-over, 75, in his opening round. Gaetz had a birdie on hole three and shot three-over on the front-nine. Gaetz came out hot on the back-nine with birdies on 10 and 11 and finished at two-over on the back-nine.
