
SCOTTSBORO, AL – Walters State is tied for second after the first day of the Ron Marshall Spring Fling at Goose Pond Colony.
On Monday, the Senators shot 17-over in their first round and followed it up with a 14-over in round two to shoot 31-over for the day. The Senators are tied for second with Wallace State and Roane State. Illinois Central leads the tournament at 29-over.
Nick Talley led the way for Walters State on the day, shooting five-over to sit in fifth-place. Talley shot a 2-over, 74, in his opening round of the day with birdies on holes 11, 12, 14 and 18. In round two, Talley finished with a three-over, 75. Talley birdied the second hole in the round.
Along with Talley, Alex Gaetz is in a tie for eighth at 7-over. In round one, Gaetz shot 4-over, 76, with birdies on the ninth, 10th and 15th holes. Gaetz followed it up with a 3-over, 75, in round two with birdies on the second, ninth, 15th and 17th holes.
Bowen Brantley was the third finisher for Walters State on the day, in a tie for 13th at 9-over. Brantley shot a 5-over, 77, in round one and had birdies on the 10th, 14th and 15th holes. Brantley followed it up in round two with a 4-over, 76.
Rounding out the team were Jonas Rayfield in a tie for 18th at 10-over and Sloan Brooks in a tie for 27th at 13-over. Rayfield shot a six-over, 78, in round one with birdies on holes two and 18 and followed it up with a four-over, 76, in round two. Rayfield birdied on the second hole during the round.
Meanwhile, Brooks shot an eight-over, 80, in his opening round with a birdie on 15 and followed it up with a five-over, 77, in round two with a birdie on the seventh hole.
Playing as an individual, Ian Kinsey is in a tie for 35th at 15-over. Kinsey shot a seven-over, 79, in round one with a birdie on the seventh and 15th holes and shot an eight-over, 80, in round two with a birdie on the 10th hole.
