
KNOXVILLE, TN – Walters State has a two-shot lead at the Brad Rose Collegiate following the opening round on Monday at Willow Creek Golf Club.
As a team, the Senators shot an 11-over to lead Cleveland State by two shots.
Individually, Bowen Brantley led the way in sixth-place at 1-over. Brantley birdied the opening hole of his round, as well as holes seven, 12 and 16.
Along with Brantley, Sloan Brooks and Nick Talley are tied for 12th at 3-over. Brooks had one birdie in his round, the 17th-hole, but parred his way through much of the round. Meanwhile, Talley had three birdies on the front-nine, the fourth, seventh and ninth holes.
Rounding out the team for the Senators were Alex Gaetz and Blake Woody in a tie for 18th-place at 4-over. Gaetz had a birdie on the 10th-hole, while Woody shot one-under on the front-nine with birdies on the first and fifth holes. Woody also birdied the 532-yard par-5 15th.
The Senators also had three individuals compete. In ninth-place is Ian Kinsey at 2-over. Kinsey's lone birdie of the day came on the 13th-hole. Along with Kinsey, Blake Dawson is in 37th-place at 7-over after birdieing the seventh and 13th holes.
Brant Kardatzke rounded out the individuals, in 62nd-place at 12-over.
