Lady Senators land four on All-TCCAA Softball Team

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Walters State softball program landed four players on the All-TCCAA Softball Team when the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association awards were announced Monday afternoon at the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Softball Tournament at Columbia State.

 

After compiling a 32-17 overall record and 22-9 TCCAA record for the year, the defending Region VII champions had infielder Keeley Quillen honored as an All-TCCAA First Team member, while pitcher Delilah Malczewski, catcher Sydney Fox and outfielder Kallyn Newport all named to the All-TCCAA Second Team.

 

Columbia State's Kaitlyn Scruggs was named the TCCAA Player of the Year, while Chattanooga State's Brooke Parrott was the Pitcher of the Year and her coach Blythe Golden was selected as the league's Coach of the Year after the Tigers won the regular season title with a 23-5 record.

 

Quillen led the team in batting average (.452), home runs (14), doubles (13), hits (56), extra-base hits (28), runs (42), RBIs (40),  total bases (113), walks (23) and hit by pitch (14).

 

Fix batted .338 with four homers, 35 RBIs, 12 doubles, 47 hits, 29 runs scored and allowed only eight stolen bases in 43 games.

 

Newport batted .341 with eight home runs, 27 RBIs, two doubles, 42 hits and 31 runs scored.

 

Malczewski was 16-8 on the year with six saves while losing 12 complete games. The lefty made 38 appearances and tossed 146 1/3 innings, allowing 104 runs (69 earned) on 172 hits while striking out 81 and walking 36 batters. She had a 3.30 earned run average entering the postseason.

 

Joining Quillen in the First Team infield were Volunteer State's Ciera Pervis and Emilee Hanlon, Columbia State's Brianna Brady, Chattanooga State's Haley Smith and Southwest Tennessee's MaKayla Pugh as the catcher. The First Team pitchers were Parrott and Cleveland State's Kaitlyn Pickens, Southwest Tennessee's Hannah Finley was the First Team utility player and the First Team outfield consisted of Chattanooga State's Madison Tidmore, Cleveland State's Hailey Galvan, Dyersburg State's Emily Hooper and Scruggs of Columbia State.

 

Joining Malczewski as the other Second Team pitcher was Volunteer State's Tara Cates, while Newport was joined as a Second Team outfielder by Volunteer State's Hannah Marlar, Columbia State's Carmalana See-Green and Chattanooga State's Shelby Penning. Joining Fox in the infield on the Second Team were Chattanooga State's Breanna Vinson, Ashlyn Holland and Katie Cheesman, Cleveland State's Aubrie Bowman, Dyersburg State's Emily Gilstrap, Motlow State's Madison Hopkins and Jackson State's Gracie Emerson. Chattanooga State's Madison Crabtree was the Second Team utility player.
