No. 4 Walters State softball picks up win over Roane State in Region 7/TCCAA Tournament

GALLATIN, TN – No. 4 Walters State opened up their time at the Region 7/TCCAA Tournament at Volunteer State on Tuesday with a 7-0 win over Roane State. 

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 49-2 overall. The Lady Senators will play Dyersburg State tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT.

 

Tori Coffman picked up her 27th win of the season in the circle for Walters State, throwing a complete game shutout. Coffman allowed just two hits and struck out 10. 

 

At the plate, Kailey Dixon led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Abigail Taylor also had three hits and an RBI, while Brianna Beech, Kasey Bennett and Sarah King each had two hits. 

 

Following a scoreless top of the first, the Lady Senators loaded the bases in the bottom half and picked up two runs when Beech singled to score Bennett and Dixon. 

 

The Lady Senators added to their lead when they picked up a run each in the second and third as Dixon had an RBI double and Taylor singled in a run to make it 4-0. Walters State concluded the scoring in the fifth with three more runs as Dixon singled home King, Taylor scored on an error and Jules Johnson had an RBI single to make it 7-0. 

 

Up Next:

 

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday to take on Dyersburg State at 10 a.m. CT. A win would put the Lady Senators one win away from the TCCAA/Region 7 Championship game.
