MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 5 Walters State played their first home games in 20 days on Thursday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Southwest Tennessee. The Lady Senators won 9-1 in game one and 10-0 in game two, both ending in five innings.
With the wins, Walters State improved to 25-3 overall and 15-1 in TCCAA play.
"We stepped up and did what we had to do," Walters State coach Larry Sauceman said. "We came out here and scored runs early and got ahead and let our pitching do the rest. We got us two conference wins and have to come out here tomorrow and do it again."
GAME ONE: No. 5 Walters State 9, Southwest TN 1 (5 Innings)
In game one, the Lady Senators gave up a run in the top of the first but scored nine unanswered to end things early.
Tori Coffman got the start in the circle for the Lady Senators and threw an inning. Hayley Lawing replaced Coffman in the second and pitched the final four innings. Lawing allowed no runs on three hits and struck out two.
Following Southwest's run in the top of the first, the Lady Senators immediately answered in the bottom of the inning. Those runs came on a Imari Golden two-RBI double and an Olivia Neese single that scored Golden to make it 3-1.
Following a run in the second on a Kailey Dixon sacrifice fly that made it 4-1, Walters State scored two more in the third on another Golden RBI double and a Haidyn Campbell RBI single that made it 6-1.
The Lady Senators added one more in the fourth on Neese's second RBI single of the game and then ended things in the fifth with two runs. Those runs came on back-to-back RBI singles by Dixon and Jules Johnson.
GAME TWO: No. 5 Walters State 10, Southwest Tennessee 0 (5 Innings)
In game two, Makayla Ramsey pitched a complete game shutout to secure the doubleheader sweep.
Ramsey allowed four hits but no runs. Ramsey induced seven groundouts and had two 1-2-3 innings.
The Lady Senators wasted zero time getting Ramsey run support, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Those runs came on a two-RBI single by Nora Mack, an RBI single by Golden and a two-RBI single by Brooklyn Copley.
In the second, the Lady Senators picked up three more runs to make it 8-0, as Dixon had an RBI single, Mack had an RBI single and Golden had an RBI single. Golden finished the day going 5-6 at the plate and drove in five runs.
The Lady Senators final two runs of the game came in the bottom of the third, as Dixon hit a two-RBI single. From there, Ramsey set Southwest down to secure the win.

Walters State will host Southwest Tennessee for two more games on Friday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. ET.
