Lady Senators remain perfect with wins over Three Rivers, No. 17 Lake Land

OXFORD, AL – Walters State continued their historic start to the season on Friday at the JUCO Softball Extravaganza, winning two games to remain unbeaten. The Lady Senators defeated Three Rivers CC, 8-0 in six innings, and No. 17 Lake Land, 5-0.

 

With the wins, Walters State improved to 14-0 on the season. The two wins also moved Walters State coach Larry Sauceman two wins away from 1,000 career victories. 

 

GAME ONE: Walters State 8, Three Rivers CC 0 (6 Innings)

 

In game one, the Lady Senators scored three runs in the sixth inning to end the contest early.

 

Jules Johnson and Brianna Beech led the way for the Lady Senators, each hitting home runs. Both had two hits and drove in two runs. 

 

Along with Johnson and Beech, Kasey Bennett drove in two runs while Halle Laramie had two hits. 

 

Ashley Milligan (7-0) got the start in the circle and picked up the win. Milligan threw six innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out nine. 

 

The two teams were scoreless until the third inning when Walters State broke through as Bennett doubled to left to score Abigail Taylor. It was 2-0 when Kailey Dixon scored on a passed ball, and Johnson made it 3-0 as she doubled in Bennett. 

 

Following a scoreless fourth, Johnson added to the lead for Walters State with a solo home run. Later in the inning, Walters State made it 5-0 as Sarah King singled to score Beech. 

 

In the sixth, the Lady Senators ended the game as Laramie singled in Johnson and Beech hit a walk-off two-run homer over the fence in left. 

 

GAME TWO: Walters State 5, No. 17 Lake Land 0

 

In game two, Tori Coffman was unstoppable in the circle as the Lady Senators won their first ranked matchup of the season.

 

Coffman (7-0) pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 15 batters in the game to move her season total to 66. 

 

After two scoreless innings to start, Walters State got on the board first as Beech walked with the bases-loaded to score Bennett. 

 

In the fifth, Walters State added to their lead as Dixon bunted for a single and was brought home when Bennett hammered a home run to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, Walters State scored twice more as Tatum Dye singled to score Johnson and a King flyball scored Laramie.

 

From there, Coffman was automatic the rest of the way.

Walters State will be back in action for two games on Saturday. The Lady Senators will play John A. Logan at 1 p.m. and Georgia Military College at 3 p.m.
