Lady Senators complete sweep of Motlow State

TULLAHOMA, TN – No. 6 Walters State completed a four-game sweep of Motlow State on Monday afternoon, taking game one by a score of 14-4 and game two by a score of 6-0.

 

With the sweep, the Lady Senators improved to 18-0 overall and 4-0 in TCCAA play. It is the best start to a season under head coach Larry Sauceman. 

 

GAME ONE: No. 6 Walters State 14, Motlow State 4 (6 Innings)

 

In game one, the Lady Senators scored early and often as they easily took the win.

 

Tori Coffman (9-0) got the start in the circle and threw three innings, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four. Adrienne Morrison pitched an inning following Coffman, allowing one run on two hits, while Abigayle Holt replaced Morrison and threw 0.1 innings. Holt gave up three runs, two earned, on two hits. 


Ashley Milligan threw the final 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out two. 

 

At the plate, Jules Johnson was unbelievable, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run. Johnson drove in five runs and scored three.

 

Along with Johnson at the plate, Brianna Beech went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Kailey Dixon also had three hits and knocked in a run. 

 

The scoring started early for the Lady Senators as Johnson homered two batters into the game to make it 2-0. The Lady Senators added one more run in the first when Sarah King singled home Beech. 

 

Following a run in the second on a Johnson double, the Lady Senators added six more runs in the third. Dixon started the scoring with a bunt single that scored Ava Brooks before Kasey Bennett scored Halle Laramie on a sacrifice fly. It was 7-0 after Johnson singled home Abigail Taylor and 10-0 after Beech hammered a 3-run homer. 

 

Motlow got on the board in the fifth to make it 10-4, but the Lady Senators scored four more in the sixth. Those runs came on a Johnson RBI single, a Beech RBI single and a Dye single that scored two. 

 

GAME TWO: No. 6 Walters State 6, Motlow State 0

 

In game two, Milligan got the start and threw a complete game shutout as the Lady Senators closed the series out. 

 

Milligan allowed no runs on three hits while striking out nine. Milligan improved to 9-0 on the season with the win.

 

At the plate, King led the way with three hits while Dixon, Brooks and Dye each had two hits. 

 

The Lady Senators got on the board first in the top of the second as Dixon singled home King. It was 2-0 two batters later as Taylor scored on a wild pitch. 

 

In the fifth, the Lady Senators added three more runs as they increased their lead to 5-0. Those runs were courtesy of a Dye RBI double, Laramie RBI single and King RBI single. The final run for Walters State came in the sixth on a Brooks RBI double.

Walters State will be back in action on Friday as they travel to play No. 10 Chattanooga State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. with game two to follow.
