Lady Senators split doubleheader with Snead State

BOAZ, AL – The Walters State softball team split a doubleheader against Snead State Wednesday afternoon, taking down the Lady Parsons 10-3 in game one before falling 5-1 in game two. 

With the split, Walters State moves to 3-3 on the season. 

 WALTERS STATE 10, SNEAD STATE 3 

It was a strong start for the Lady Senators as they totaled 18 hits in game one. 

Jessica Campbell, Sydney Dukes, Lauren Brickey and Olivia Wheeler led the Lady Senators in game one with three hits each. Wheeler also knocked in four runs while Dukes had three RBIs.  

Things started off quick for Walters State as Brickey singled home Campbell and Wheeler scored Dukes in the top of the first to make it 2-2. Snead would tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning, but the Lady Senators broke the game open in the third when Wheeler singled home a run, Kallyn Newport scored Brickey, Campbell singled in a run and Dukes singled in a run. 

Dukes and Wheeler were at it again later as Dukes doubled home a run in the top of the fifth and Wheeler hit a two-run home run in the sixth, her second of the season. The scoring was capped off in the seventh when Dukes singled in Campbell.  

In the circle, it was Brickey who had yet another solid outing, picking up her second win of the year with a complete game performance. Brickey gave up three runs on six hits and struck out four.  

SNEAD STATE 5, WALTERS STATE 1  

In game two, the Lady Senators struggled to get the bats going with just four hits. Campbell, Dukes, Brickey and Jenica Brown got the hits.  

Walters State's lone run came in the sixth inning when Brown scored on a passed ball. 

Hannah Robinson got the start for the Lady Senators in the circle in game two and lasted 1.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit while striking out one.  

Alison Chandler replaced her with two outs in the second and pitched the remaining 4.1 innings where she allowed four runs, just one earned, and struck out two.  

UP NEXT: 

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday, travelling to take on Roane State. The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
