MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 4 Walters State kept the winning ways going on Friday afternoon, taking down Southwest Tennessee twice. The Lady Senators won 16-2 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
With the wins, the Lady Senators improved to 28-0 on the season and 14-0 in TCCAA play.
"I thought our pitching did a good job today," Walters State coach Larry Sauceman said. "Ashley Milligan was really solid today in that second game. I thought we hit the ball well in the first game but let off the gas a little in the second game. We need to be consistent throughout both games tomorrow."
GAME ONE: No. 4 Walters State 16, Southwest Tennessee 2 (5 Innings)
In game one, the Lady Senators collected 16 runs on 16 hits as they cruised to the win.
At the plate, Brianna Beech had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs. Kasey Bennett and Tatum Dye also homered while Sarah King, Kailey Dixon and Abigail Taylor each had two hits.
In the circle, Tori Coffman got the start and threw four innings. She allowed two runs on three hits while striking out nine. Abigayle Holt pitched the final inning, striking out one.
Southwest got on the board quick with a two-run homer in the first, but Walter State scored one in the bottom half with a Bennett home run. The Lady Senators then scored eight in the second to blow the game open. The runs came on a Beech two-run homer, a Dixon two-RBI double, a Bennett RBI double, a Dye RBI double and a Beech two-RBI single that made it 9-2.
In the third, five more runs came across for Walters State. Dixon started things off with an RBI single before Dye smacked a three-run shot. The final run came on an Ava Brooks RBI single.
The Lady Senators final two runs came in the fourth as Bennett groundout out to score a run and Jules Johnson doubled a run in.
GAME TWO: No. 4 Walters State 8, Southwest Tennessee 0 (5 Innings)
In game two, Ashley Milligan pitched a complete game shutout for the win.
In her start, Milligan allowed just three hits and struck out seven.
At the plate, Bennett and Beech homered again. Beech drove in four runs for the second straight game while Bennett and Dixon had two hits each.
Walters State got on the board early in the bottom of the first as Bennett smacked a two-run homer. The Lady Senators added another run in the third with a Beech RBI double to make it 3-0.
In the fifth, the Lady Senators scored five times to end things early. Those runs came on a Dye RBI single, a Beech three-run homer and a Dixon RBI single.

Walters State will be back in action for two more games against Southwest on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
