No. 6 Walters State sweeps No. 10 Chattanooga State on the road

CHATTANOOGA, TN – No. 6 Walters State stayed undefeated on Saturday afternoon, completing a four-game sweep of No. 10 Chattanooga State. The Lady Senators took game one by a score of 8-0 and game two by a score of 9-3.

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 22-0 overall and 8-0 in TCCAA play. The Lady Senators outscored the Lady Tigers over the weekend, 36-8. 

 

GAME ONE: No. 6 Walters State 8, No. 10 Chattanooga State 0 (5 Innings)

 

In game one, Tori Coffman pitched a complete game shutout for the second time on the weekend for the win. 

 

In her seven innings, Coffman struck out eight and picked up her 12th win of the season. 

 

It was a quick start for the Lady Senators as Tatum Dye made it 2-0 in the top of the first with a two-RBI single. 

 

In the third, the Lady Senators added to their lead as Kasey Bennett smacked a solo home run. Two more runs scored later in the inning as Ava Brooks doubled in Dye and Halle Laramie to make it 5-0. 

 

Following an RBI double by Jules Johnson that scored Bennett, Laramie put the game away in the sixth with her fourth home run of the weekend. The homer was a two-run shot that made it 8-0. 

 

From there, Coffman easily took care of the Lady Tigers to take the win. 

 

GAME TWO: No. 6 Walters State 9, No. 10 Chattanooga State 3

 

In game two, the Lady Senators completed the sweep over the Lady Tigers.

 

Ashley Milligan (10-0) got the start and threw the five four innings, allowing three runs. Coffman pitched the final two innings to close things out. 

 

Once again, Walters State got on the board in the top of the first as Bennett singled in Kailey Dixon. In the second, the Lady Senators added to their lead as Sarah King knocked in a run, Johnson walked with the bases loaded and Dye drove in two to make it 5-0. 

 

Following an RBI single by Brooks that scored Laramie for Walters State, Chattanooga State scored three in the fourth to make it 6-3. Walters State got two of the runs back in the sixth as Johnson singled in two. 

 

In the seventh, Dixon singled in one to cap off the scoring. Coffman struck out two in the bottom of the seventh to secure the sweep.

Walters State will be back in action on Friday as they host Jackson State for a doubleheader. First pitch on Friday is set for 2 p.m.
