Eighth-ranked Lady Senators split games with Georgia Military, Central Alabama

OXFORD, AL – No. 8 Walters State split two games on Friday afternoon at the JUCO Softball Extravaganza, losing 6-3 to Georgia Military before taking an 8-0 win over Central Alabama.

 

With the split, the Lady Senators moved to 7-1 on the season.

 

GAME ONE: Georgia Military 6, No. 8 Walters State 3

 

In game one of the day, Walters State scored three runs in the first two innings but failed to score again, taking their first loss of the season.

 

At the plate, Haidyn Campbell knocked in two runs while Oliva Neese drove in the other. The Lady Senators had just five hits.

 

In the circle, Emma Myatt (0-1) got the start and threw 2.1 innings, giving up five runs on four hits while striking out two. Makayla Ramsey replaced Myatt with one out in the third and threw three innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out one. Hayley Lawing got the final two outs for the Lady Senators, striking out one. 

 

Walters State got things going in the top of the first as Kailey Dixon singled and Jules Johnson walked. Campbell drove them both in with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

 

Georgia Military answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Walters State struck again in the top of the second as Abigail Taylor walked and Neese drove her in with an RBI double. 

 

However, Georgia Military scored three in the third and one in the fifth to take the win. 

 

GAME TWO: No. 8 Walters State 8, Central Alabama 0 (6 Innings)

 

In game two, the Lady Senators got the bats going and Tori Coffman did her thing in the circle.

 

Coffman gave up one hit in her six innings of work, striking out nine. It was Coffman's fifth win of the season to go with zero losses.

 

At the plate, Jayden Salts had three hits and drove in two runs. Salts had two singles and a triple. Along with Salts, Dixon, Taylor and Brooklyn Copley each had two hits. Neese had three RBI, as well. 

 

Following a scoreless first, Walters State got on the board in the second with a run. That run came courtesy of a Neese RBI single that made it 1-0.

 

Following an RBI single from Neese that scored Taylor in the fourth to make it 2-0, Walters State broke the game open with four runs in the fifth. Those runs came on a 2-RBI triple by Salts, a sacrifice fly by Sarah Evers that scored Salts and an RBI single by Dixon that made it 6-0. 

 

The Lady Senators finished things off in the sixth with two more runs. Neese drove in one with an RBI groundout. The final run came on an RBI single by Dixon that made it 8-0.

 

Up Next:

 

Walters State will be back in action in Oxford for two more games on Saturday. That Lady Senators will play Shelton State at 11 a.m. and Gordon State at 5 p.m.
