Lady Senators drop TCCAA opening doubleheader at Chattanooga State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Walters State opened TCCAA play with two losses Friday, falling 4-1 in the opening game to Chattanooga State, then 8-4 in the nightcap.

The Lady Senators (7-5, 0-2 TCCAA) are in the midst of a four-game losing streak.

In the first game, WSCC was able to consistently put runners on base, but could only capitalize in the top of the sixth. Sydney Dukes knocked a base hit into left field and was batten by Hayley Parrott, who connected on a two-out single to put the runner across.

The Lady Tigers got on the board in the top of the first thanks to a two-run homer from Haley Smith. They put two more runs across in the fifth inning with RBIs from Olivia Whaley and Sarah Talley.

Kenna Kap (4-2) took the loss in the circle for Walters State, going six innings with six hits, four runs and three walks.

WSCC got more out of its bats in game two, but too many crooked numbers in the early frames from Chattanooga State was too much to overcome.

The Lady Senators trailed 7-1 after four innings, but managed a three-run fifth to keep the game out of the mercy rule.

Kailyn Newport finished 2-of-4 with an RBI. Macey Hefner was 1-of-4 with an RBI. Sydney Fox was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

WSCC sent three arms to the circle, with Morgan Riffle earning the loss with 3.1 innings, seven hits, seven runs and two walks. Alexis Duff finished out the fourth with one hit, one run and three walks. Kap pitched the last two frams with two hits and a walk.
