COLUMBIA,TN – Walters State led for the majority of the contest on Saturday afternoon against Columbia State and held off a late push, taking down the Chargers 59-53.

With the win, Walters State moves to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in TCCAA play. It's their second straight victory.

The Lady Senators were led once again by Kiera Hill. Hill recorded her second double-double of the season as she poured in 22 points and had 12 rebounds. Germariona Hollingsworth added 15 points while Maiya Reed didn't score but had 11 rebounds. Ryann Woodley also totaled 12 points. 

As a team, the Lady Senators shot 41.4% from the field and collected 40 rebounds. Columbia State only shot 37% from the field and had just 23 rebounds. 

Walters State came out firing to start the game as they got up 6-1 on four points from Hill and two from Hollingsworth. Tyasia Reed and Hollinsworth added two more buckets to make it 10-4 before a Woodley jumper and Tyasia Reed basket made it 14-10 after one. 

Walters State began to separate themselves in the second quarter as they finished the half on a 12-2 run. During the run, Woodley scored four while Rose Morrow, Hollingsworth and Hill also scored. It was 33-22 at the break. 

In the third, the two teams battled back and forth with Walters State still holding onto a double-digit lead. The lead grew to 15 at one point when Hill opened the quarter scoring six straight, but Columbia State fought back, still trailing by 11 after three.

In the fourth, Columbia State charged back one last time and actually tied the game at 51. Hollingsworth answered though with a layup and then Hill scored the final six points for Walters State to close it out.

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Motlow State. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. as the Lady Senators look for their third straight conference win.
