Hot shooting leads Lady Senators over Motlow State

MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 24 Walters State shot close to 54% from the field on Wednesday evening against Motlow State, cruising to a 102-46 victory.

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 18-3 overall and 13-0 in TCCAA play.

 

The Lady Senators were led in the game by Rose Morrow. Morrow continued her impressive string of games on Wednesday by leading the team with 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds. She also had five assists and three steals. Morrow was 9-15 from the field and 4-7 from 3-point range. 

 

Along with Morrow, Kailyn Farrell finished with 17 points on 8-10 shooting and had seven rebounds while Izarria Alexander totaled 16 points. Other contributors for Walters State were Asia Barr with 12 points and four rebounds, Tyasia Reed with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, Aminata Tal with 10 points and three rebounds, Maiya Reed with six points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals, Briontanay Marshall with six points and four rebounds and Matty Tanner with three points. 

 

As a team, the Lady Senators made 45 field goals to shoot 53.6% from the field. They made nine 3-pointers, grabbed 39 rebounds and dished out 30 assists. 

 

Defensively, Walters State held Motlow State to just 38% from the field and forced 28 turnovers. 

 

Things started quickly for the Lady Senators as they broke out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter. Alexander and Tyasia Reed each had six points to lead the way for the Lady Senators while Maiya Reed added four points and had three steals. 

 

Things continued in the second for Walters State as they held Motlow to nine points while scoring 20 of their own. Morrow was 4-5 from the field in the quarter with 10 points as the Lady Senators led 42-17. 

 

Walters State put up their best offensive quarter in the third as they scored 33 points to lead 75-30. Morrow had seven more points in the quarter while Barr and Alexander added six each. Farrell, Marshall and Tal each had four points. 

 

The fourth was more of the same as the Lady Senators eased to the win. Farrell was a perfect 5-5 from the field in the final 10 minutes while Morrow had five points. Tyasia Reed, Alexander and Tal each added four points, as well.

Walters State will be on the road on Saturday as they travel to face Southwest Tennessee. Tip is set for 3 p.m. ET.
