
TULLAHOMA, TN — Third-seeded Walters State made quick work of Roane State on Sunday evening, taking a 71-54 win in the TCCAA/Region VII Quarterfinals.
With the win, Walters State improved to 18-8 overall.
The Freshman of the Year in the conference, Kyra Perkins, led the way for Walters State with 19 points on 6-13 shooting.
Along with Perkins, Kristyna Boyd added 15 points and seven rebounds. Other contributors were Asia Barr with 10 points and six rebounds, Lia Wright with seven points, Juilenne Ongbagnamen with six points and nine rebounds, Janae Charles with six points and six rebounds, Tianna Rhodes with six points and six rebounds and Briontanay Marshall with two points and three rebounds.
As a team, Walters State shot 26-56 (46.4%) from the field and 14-16 from the free throw line. The Lady Senators collected 43 rebounds.
Defensively, the Lady Senators forced 14 turnovers and held Roane State to 35.7% from the field and 16.7% from 3-point range.
Walters State got going from the jump, breaking out to a 22-12 lead after the first. The lead was 41-26 at the half and 59-39 after three quarters.

Walters State will be back in action on Monday against Jackson State in the TCCAA/Region VII Semifinals. The two teams split the regular season matchups.
