Trio of Lady Senators lead No. 25 Walters State to win over Columbia State

COLUMBIA, TN – Rose Morrow, Kailyn Farrell and Tyasia Reed combined for 71 points on Saturday afternoon as No. 25 Walters State took home a 91-33 victory over Columbia State.

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 17-3 overall and 12-0 in TCCAA play.

 

Farrell led the charge in the scoring column with 26 points to go along with six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Reed added 23 points, seven rebounds and six steals while Morrow had 22 points, five rebounds and three steals. Morrow did her damage in just 25 minutes on the floor.

 

Other contributors for Walters State were Asia Barr with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds, Maiya Reed with five points and seven assists, Matty Tanner with three points and four assists, Izarria Alexander with two points and Briontanay Marshall with five rebounds. 

 

As a team, Walters State shot 49.3% from the field and collected 33 rebounds. They also dished out 25 assists and had 20 steals. 

 

Defensively, the Lady Senators held Columbia to 29% from the field and forced a season-high 38 turnovers. Columbia State was held to single digit point totals in all four quarters. 

 

It was all Farrell to start the game as the Lady Senators broke out to a 20-9 lead after one. Farrell had half of Walters State's points, going 4-5 from the field. Tyasia Reed added five points while Maiya Reed knocked down a 3-pointer. Walters State held Columbia to 3-11 from the field. 

 

In the second, it was more of the same for the Lady Senators as they took a 37-17 into the locker room. Farrell added six more points in the quarter while Morrow had five. Tanner and Barr each hit 3-pointers, as well.

 

The Lady Senators scored 20 more points in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 57-24. Morrow added seven more points in the third while Farrell had six and Tyasia Reed had five. 

 

The fourth quarter was a phenomenal offensive display by Walters State, scoring 34 points as a team. Tyasia Reed hit three 3-pointers in the fourth and had 13 points while Morrow hit two and had 10 points. The Lady Senators shot 14-24 from the field and held Columbia to eight shots.

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Motlow State. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
