Lady Senators fall in first game of Shelton State Classic to No. 19 Chipola

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Walters State scored 21 points in the fourth quarter on Friday evening against No. 19 Chipola, but it was too little too late as the Lady Senators fell 66-38. 

 

With the loss, Walters State fell to 4-4 on the season.

 

Kristyna Boyd led the way for Walters State in the game with 12 points. Along with Boyd, Asia Barr scored 10 points, all coming in the fourth quarter. Other scorers for Walters State were Jeremya Johnson with four points, Kyra Perkins with four points, Janae Charles with four points, Briontanay Marshall with two points, Tianna Rhodes with one point and Lia Wright with one point. 

 

It was tough sledding from the start for Walters State as they scored just nine points in the opening quarter and gave up 22. Boyd had five points in the opening 10 minutes.

 

In the second, the Lady Senators continued to struggle offensively with just four points. Chipola led 36-13 at the half.

 

The third quarter was more of the same as the Lady Senators scored just four more points and trailed 52-17 heading to the fourth. 

 

In the fourth, Walters State finally got going offensively with 21 points. Barr had 10 of them, while Boyd had seven points and Charles had four points.

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday in the Shelton State Classic, taking on No. 20 Shelton State. Tip is set for 4 p.m. ET.
