Lady Senators fall to No. 17 Eastern Florida State

PENSACOLA, FL — Walters State battled for a half against the No. 17 team in the country in Eastern Florida State but could not sustain the effort, falling 81-62. 

 

With the loss, the Lady Senators move to 4-3 on the season.

 

Walters State was led in the game by Kiera Hill with 22 points and six rebounds. Hill was 8-14 from the field. 

 

Vertonia Bady added 11 points while Izarria Alexander had eight and five rebounds.

 

Other scorers for the Lady Senators were Maiya Reed with three, Ryann Woodley with five, Tyasia Reed with seven, Akiraona Steverson with one and Germariona Hollingsworth with five. 

 

As a team, Walters State shot 22-56 from the field and had 31 rebounds and 11 assists. Eastern Florida State shot 32-61 from the field and had 42 rebounds and 17 assists. 

 

It was a back-and-forth affair to start as Eastern Florida State built up an early lead but saw the Lady Senators close it to 14-12 after one. 

 

In the second, it was more of the same as the Lady Senators would not go away and had the Titans lead at four at the break at 37-33. 

 

However, the third quarter was where it got away from the Lady Senators as the Titans almost doubled their first half points and led 63-44. Walters State put up 18 points in the final 10 minutes but could not make up any ground, falling by 19.

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday in their final game in Florida, taking on St. Petersburg College. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
