Lady Senators stay unbeaten in TCCAA play with victory over Roane State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Nine players scored for Walters State on Wednesday evening as the Lady Senators stayed perfect in conference play with a 67-53 victory over Roane State.

With the win, Walters State improves to 9-4 overall and 7-0 in TCCAA play.

"I'm glad to have a conference win," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "It's always big when you can do that. We just need to continue to work on guarding so that we can pull away earlier when we have the chance. We'll get there though and continue to work."

Kiera Hill once again led the Lady Senators in the game with 18 points as she battled through foul trouble all throughout.

Hill had help though in the form of Izarria Alexander with 12 and Ryan Woodley with 10. Other scorers for the Lady Senators included Elizabeth Chambers with seven, Germariona Hollingsworth with six, Matty Tanner, Maiya Reed and Rose Morrow with four each and Tyasia Reed with two.

Chambers was especially big on the glass for the Lady Senators, keeping plays alive with offensive boards and finishing at the rim.

"Liz Chambers just continues to learn," Coleman said. "She has a great basketball mind, and she stepped up and used her length tonight. She did some really good things for us tonight."

Coleman could not have drawn up a better start for her team as the Lady Senators jumped out in front early with the help of multiple players. Walters State scored 16 points in the quarter with all the points coming from eight different players. The Lady Senators got up 16-5 before a late rally by Roane State made it 16-10 after one.

In the second, the Lady Senators once again got off to a quick start, scoring the first 13 points. Hill started things off with a basket before Tanner and Chambers scored. Alexander would then score four straight before Chambers finished the run off by completing an and-one that made it 29-10.

However, the Lady Raiders would charge back again at the end of the half and cut the lead to 11 at 33-22.

In the third, the two teams traded buckets to start before Hill scored five quick points. Roane State answered, but Hill was there again with a basket. Hill would go on to score 11 of the Lady Senators 15 points in the quarter as they led 48-37.

The fourth quarter never really got close as Walters State built their lead to 19 before Roane State scored late. Six Lady Senators scored in the quarter as they cruised to the victory.

Up Next:

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Jackson State for another conference matchup. Tip is set for 3 p.m.

"We just have to continue to work," Coleman said. "That's always a tough place to play at, so we need to lockdown and get the job done."
