Hollingsworth scores season-high in Lady Senators win over Vol State

GALLATIN, TN – Nine Lady Senators scored on Saturday afternoon as Walters State took care of business on the road against Vol State, 79-39.

 

With the win, Walters State improves to 13-5 on the season and 11-1 in TCCAA play.

 

The Lady Senators were led in the game by Gemariona Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth had a season-high 20 points, knocking down two 3-pointers.

 

Along with Hollingsworth, Kiera Hill had 15 points while Tyasia Reed scored 11 points, one shy of her season-high. Other scorers for Walters State were Rose Morrow and Ryann Woodley each with eight, Izarria Alexander with six, Maiya Reed with five, Matty Tanner with four and Elizabeth Chambers with two. 

 

The Lady Senators started strong in the first quarter, scoring 25 points to Vol State's 10, to set the tone early. Reed had eight in the quarter while Hollingsworth had five and Hill four.  

 

In the second quarter, the Lady Senators continued to push as they scored 19 points and led 44-20 at the break. Hollingsworth led the charge in the second with seven points while Hill had four. 

 

The third quarter was all about defense for Walters State as they held Vol State to five points while scoring 21 of their own. Vol State took just seven shots during those 10 minutes while Walters State made seven. Woodley had six in the quarter while Hill tallied five. 

 

The fourth quarter was more of the same as Hollingsworth scored five more. The Lady Senators had five players score in the quarter on their way to the convincing victory.

 

Up Next: 

 

Walters State will be back in action next Saturday as they take on Southwest Tennessee at home for Alumni Day. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
