Hill named TCCAA Player of the Year, Coleman named Coach of the Year

DYERSBURG, TN – The Walters State women's basketball team has historically earned a multitude of conference awards.

2021-2022 was no different.

On Sunday, after their win over Dyersburg State in the Region VII Quarterfinals, Walters State's Kiera Hill was named the 2022 TCCAA Player of the Year, as well as Offensive Player of the Year and a member of the All-TCCAA First Team.

Along with Hill, Walters State head coach Jasmin Coleman was named the 2022 TCCAA Coach of the Year. Last year, Coleman was named the Co-Coach of the Year in the conference.

Other award winners for the Lady Senators were Gemariona Hollingsworth, who was named to the 2022 All-TCCAA First Team, and Ryann Woodley, who was named to the 2022 All-TCCAA Second Team.

Hill becomes the first player to win Player of the Year honors since just last year when Blayre Shultz won the award.

The award for Hill comes after a phenomenal season from the Lady Senators offensive weapon. During the regular season, Hill played and started in all 22 games where she averaged 19.6 points per game and 9.6 rebounds. Her 19.6 points per game was good enough for ninth in the country.

Hill shot 47.6% from the field and 74.3% from the free-throw line. Hill led the conference in points per game and rebounds per game. Hill recorded a double-double in 12 games this season.

For the season, Hill scored over 20 points 11 times. Her season-high came against Patrick and Henry Community College when she scored 31 points and was 15-19 from the field.

Hill's play could not have been possible without her head coach, and Coleman was rewarded for her coaching ability.

Coleman earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lady Senators to a 16-6 regular season record and 14-1 record in TCCAA play. Coleman led Walters State to a TCCAA Regular Season Title, their 12th straight conference regular season title.

Coleman is now 30-10 in her two years as head coach of Walters State and has just four conference losses in two seasons.

Along with Hill and Coleman, Hollingsworth and Woodley were honored for their successful seasons.

Hollingsworth was named to the 2022 All-TCCAA First Team after a season that saw her average 10.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 22 games. Hollingsworth shot 47.3% from the field and 30.3% from the 3-point line.

Hollingsworth's season-high came at Volunteer State when she scored 20 points.

Woodley has been another huge asset for the Lady Senators, earning All-TCCAA Second Team honors. Woodley was as consistent as they come for Walters State, averaging 7.4 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Woodley's season-high came against Cleveland State, scoring 19 points.
