Barr named Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, Perkins earns Freshman of the Year

MORRISTOWN, TN – Asia Barr and Kyra Perkins have been an impressive duo for Walters State this season and both were honored by the TCCAA on Sunday. 

 

Barr was named the TCCAA Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year for the 2023-2024 season, while Perkins was named the TCCAA Freshman of the Year. Both were also named 1st Team All-TCCAA.

 

Additionally, Briontanay Marshall was named 2nd Team All-TCCAA. 

 

Barr was named Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year after averaging 15.7 points per game. Barr finished fourth in the country in 3-pointers made, draining 90 treys on the season. Barr broke the Walters State school record for 3-pointers in a game twice during the season, the most recent being 13 against Roane State. Barr also averaged five assists and three rebounds per game. 

 

Barr scored over 20 points in seven games this season, including 39 against Roane State and 30 against Volunteer State.

 

Perkins was solid all the way around for Walters State, earning Freshman of the Year honors. Perkins averaged 14.9 points per game, finishing fifth in the conference. She finished averaging 4.8 rebounds per game and was eighth in the conference in blocks with 25. Perkins also totaled 57 steals and knocked in 42 3-pointers. Her 142 field goals made were fourth-best in the conference. 

 

Marshall earned 2nd Team All-TCCAA after averaging 6.6 points per game and seven rebounds. She also averaged over two blocks per game. Marshall started 24 games this season.
