Lady Senators split matches on Day Two of Blazer Classic

Walters State got back on the winning track in their morning match against host Vincennes University, 3-1, but fell to John A. Logan in the lunch-time contest, 3-0 at the Blazer Classic at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Ind.

The Lady Senators (6-3) had to battle back from an early loss against the Trailblazers. Vincennes charged out to a 25-18 victory in game one, but Walters State dominated the rest of the way. Game two's 25-20 final score was the closest of the three victories, with the Lady Senators winning 25-18 in game three and 25-17 in game four.

Freshman Olivia Oxendine (Pensacola, Fla.) dominated at the net with 14 kills. Freshman Hannah Daniel (Bristol, Tenn.) hammered in eight kills and freshman Jania Hill (Morristown, Tenn.) added seven.

Sophomore Alexis Wakefield (Portland, Tenn.) scooped up 28 digs in the match. Freshman Amanda Singleton (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded 18 digs and sophomore Courtney Dotson (Greeneville, Tenn.) had 12.

The opening frame against John A. Logan was close, a 25-20 defeat, but the Lady Vols powered past Walters State in games two and three, 25-15 and 25-15, to earn the three-game sweep.

The net work wasn't as crisp against JAL, with Oxendine and Hill teaming up for five kills apiece. Wakefield and Singleton matched each other with 16 digs each.
