BOAZ, AL – No.12 Walters State split their first two matches of the Snead State Classic on Friday, falling 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 22-25, 16-14) to Jones College before bouncing back with a 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11) win over Pearl River.
With the split, the Lady Senators moved to 17-4 overall.
In the opening match against Jones, the Lady Senators were led by Lauren Mims with 15 digs, 13 kills and three aces. Along with Mims, Payton Brown had 18 digs and three aces and Veda Barton had 10 kills and four blocks.
Other contributors for the Lady Senators were Sydney Bjornstad with 13 digs, Rylee Haynie with six kills and six blocks, Olivia Brown with 18 assists and 14 digs and Annah Cate Hyatt with 16 assists, 10 digs and two aces.
Against Pearl River, Hyatt led the way with 14 digs, five kills and eight assists. Along with Hyatt, Bjornstad had 29 digs while Haynie had 14 kills and three blocks.
Other contributors included Emma Miller with 17 assists and 10 digs, Catherine Sweeney with five kills and five blocks, Barton with nine kills and two blocks and Olivia Brown with 14 assists.
