Coach Raymond Farmer started at Walter State in 2019, after 27 years of coaching high school cross country at Morristown West High School.  He earned his Bachelor’s  of Science from Carson-Newman, and then moved on to obtain his Master’s in Education and Administration and E.D.S. from Lincoln Memorial University.

 

Coach Farmer is a native of Morristown, and a graduate of Morristown West High School.  As a standout in High School he would go on to Carson-Newman where he would earn All-American honors in Cross Country.  He returned to Morristown West after graduating Carson Newman in 1992, to work 5 years as the assistant cross country coach, with Jan Haney, and they helped the school gain its first State Championship in Girls Cross Country in 1993.  He was Head Track Coach till 2004 when he took time off to be with his family.  He came back as assistant for several years and retook the head coach roll again in 2012, from there he took another brief stint and took on the roll once again in 2017.  After taking on the roll of Head Cross Country Coach in 1996, the women would go on to obtain four more State Championships in 2005, 2006, 2013, 2014, and were Runner up 2004.  The Men’s team would garner 1 State Championship in 2009, and 2 Runner-ups in 2008 and 2010.  He also has had multiple All-State Athletes and 1 State Champion and 2 Runner-Ups as individuals. 

 

In his first season as Head Coach for the Senators and Lady Senators he has helped the ladies to gain their first ever NJCAA Region VII Championship with the men finishing second.  He has high hopes for the future of the program and the opportunities it provides its athletes.

 

Coach Farmer is married to the former Valerie Gilbert and they have two daughters Lindsay and Savannah.
